Miguel San Juan, U.S. Executive Director
of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) gave the keynote
address at the 4th annual invitation-only Amigos de las Américas
(AMIGOS) Executive Business Luncheon. The event was held at the
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Houston Branch
The Inter-American Development Bank is the
primary source of multi-lateral financing and expertise for
sustainable economic, social and institutional development in
Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mr. San Juan was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on
July 17, 2008. He represents U.S. interests on the IDB’s Board
of Executive Directors, which is responsible for oversight of
the Bank’s operations. Before his appointment, he was senior
vice president of the Partnership's Business Development
Division of the Greater Houston Partnership and president of the
Partnership's World Trade Division from January 1992 to April
2004. Mr. San Juan also served on the AMIGOS International Board
for several years.
Lupe Fraga, CEO of Tejas Office Supplies and
Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Houston Branch,
and AMIGOS President Emily Untermeyer also spoke at the
luncheon.
About 150 international business and civic
leaders attended the event. The luncheon was held in conjunction
with the AMIGOS Gala to be held on May
2, 2009 at Hotel ZaZa, 5701 Main St., in Houston. The Gala will
honor longtime AMIGOS supporter George Donnelly with the
inaugural AMIGOS Ambassador Award.
